Purpose: Evaluation of abscess, aorta, lesions, lungs, mediastinum, pleura, heart and great vessels(aorta). Prep: NPO four (4) hours before procedure (except for medications). Diabetic patients need to be off Glucophage and Glucovance 48 hours after the procedure. In some procedures, IV contrast media may be injected. Restrictions: Known allergy to iodinated contrast. For diabetic patients, need BUN and creatinine levels. Process: Patient lies on CT “table”. Scans are obtained. The test takes approximately 15-20 minutes. Side Effects: Side effects to CT procedures are minimal, but may include hot flashes or nausea, as a result of the contrast agent. |
