C.T. Scan - Patient Preparation

Abdominal NPO four (4) hours in advance except for medications, water and oral prep. Patient arrives one hour in advance to drink the entire oral contrast. Diabetic patients need to be off Glucophage and Glucovance 48 hours after the procedure. In some procedures, IV contrast media may be injected. Exceptions: No oral prep for CT KUB (R/O kidney stones) Chest NPO four (4) hours before procedure (except for medications). Head/Neck NPO four hours before procedure (except for medications). Diabetic patients need to be off Glucophage and Glucovance 48 hours after the procedure (check with doctor first).
